Radiation Therapists

Radiation therapists are the professionals who simulate and deliver radiation therapy treatments according to plan. Patients who receive radiation therapy in our department get to know their therapists very well, because they see the same therapists every day.

All radiation therapists in the department are licensed by the State of Florida and have passed national boards. As an academic institution, the University of Miami School of Medicine Radiation Oncology Department participates in the clinical training of radiation therapy students. During their clinical rotation in the department, they observe the treatment process under the supervision of a licensed radiation therapist. However, they are not allowed by law to deliver radiation treatments during training.

The radiation therapists consider it a privilege to treat patients, and look at the patient-therapist relationship as a partnership. They encourage patients to ask questions and to express any concerns they have. Since the radiation therapists interact with the patients on a daily basis, they will consult with the nurse, doctor, or social worker if the need arises for further evaluation of a side effect or any other concern.

Our radiation therapy team excels in treatment delivery, and strives to ensure that our patients’ daily visits to our department are always a friendly and pleasant experience.
