Our Care Team
In radiation oncology, the art of patient care meets the science of physics. For this reason, medical doctors (M.D.) and physicists (Ph.D.) both play a role in ensuring that each patient receives the finest and most appropriate treatment possible.
In receiving radiation, you will be cared for by a team of special individuals that includes a radiation oncologist, a physicist, two radiation therapists, and registered nurses. You will see the same radiation oncologist, one or both of the same therapists, and the same nurses over the course of your treatment. This will ensure continuity of care and help you feel comfortable with the routine. Depending on the type of treatment required for your cancer, you may or may not meet your physicist. The physicists largely work behind the scenes to ensure that patients receive the proper dosages of radiation.
Our department also has a social worker, who helps with transportation, home care, and other issues of concern to many patients, and a financial counselor to assist with insurance and financial matters.
We look forward to getting to know you and to helping you through your cancer treatment experience.
